This song is by Juanes, an extremely popular Colombian pop and rock singer who has won 20 Latin Grammy Awards and 9 Grammy Awards. The song topped the charts in Austria, France, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway. The song is in the pop genre however more specifically the “Música de carrilera” of Colombia that holds a traditional streak of Colombian music from the Andes in it. The lyrics explain a lost love, lusting and yearning after the memories of his relationship with a woman. La camisa negra, or “the black t-shirt” is a metaphor for the pain he feels for losing and being betrayed to by the mysterious woman. The shirt reminds him that he is already dead inside from the pain he is consumed in. However, the song has been accepted as more than a love song, but instead as a political statement against situations that one can be put into without control. For example, Juanes performed the song for a European Union conference against land mines stating, “This is a great opportunity to use music as a weapon for peace and to promote a message which will be heard. The situation in Colombia is very difficult. Every day, two people are killed by land mines.” Among other reviews of this song, it was accepted by the neo-fascists in Italy because of the black outfit that they wore in support of their beliefs and saluted in the clubs when it was played. Juanes later stated that this was not the intention of his song, however people are free to see what they want in his music. As many interpretations as there are to this song, the circular rhythm on the acoustic guitar caught the world’s attention as it overtook the charts and skyrocketed Juanes' international success.

Europa valt in de zomer van 2006 voor de zwoele Spaanstalige klanken van Juanes' La Camisa Negra. Maar waar veel mensen een liefdesliedje horen, halen Italianen een compleet andere boodschap uit het nummer van de Colombiaanse en Spanje vallen in 2005 al voor La Camisa Negra, een van de singles van Juanes' derde album Mi Sangre, maar het grootste deel van Europa is pas een jaar later aan de beurt. De ballade van de Colombiaanse zanger bereikt de tweede plek in de Nederlandse hitlijsten, en weet in onder andere België, Duitsland, Frankrijk en Denemarken zelfs de toppositie te veroveren. Zo groeit La Camisa Negra uit tot een van de zomerhits van 2006, al is de betekenis van de tekst minder vrolijk dan het gelikte geluid van de track doet vermoeden. In het nummer zingt Juanes over de liefde die hem bedrogen heeft. De zanger geeft aan dat hij een zwart shirt draagt om aan te geven dat hij in rouw is. Juanes liet in een reactie weten dat La Camisa Negra niks met fascisme te maken heeft. Overigens werd het nummer ook in de Dominicaanse Republiek met gemengde gevoelens ontvangen. In dat land weigerden radiozenders om het nummer te draaien, niet vanwege vermeend fascisme maar vanwege de seksuele ondertoon van La Camisa Negra.
